The difference between a loose fitting and a rock-solid wall fixing depends less on expensive professional tools than on a few deliberate techniques that even experienced home improvers often overlook.

The usual mistake happens well before the first drilling dust appears: anyone who does not know what their wall is made from is working blind. That is when wall plugs spin in place, pull out or hold only until the coat rack is loaded with heavy winter coats.
